Sympathy

Sonnet

WHEN earthward came God’s ministering angels three,
Love, Mercy, Hope, out of the abyss cast
Of human passion, from their chaos vast
They bore a blossom tenderly.
Its petals all the blazoned emblems bore
Of blessed spirit trinity who drew
The flower from the deep, its being bore
The kiss of love and mercy’s blessed dew
And hope in all her singing symphony
Its blooms are twined in duty’s flowing hair
And in the cypress wreath and rue they bear.
They flourish’neath the ministering angels’ care.
Men know the bloom and call it – Sympathy.
